Going back to their roots: Two star sushi chefs return to Tokyo Posted: 05 Dec 2012 08:01 AM PST We sit down with a pair of Japan's finest sushi masters to find out why they honed their skills in New York and London Article Page Legendary sushi chef Naomichi Yasuda loves hamming it up for the camera. When I asked him to pose for a photo, he rolled up the sleeve of his immaculate white uniform and flexed his biceps, Popeye-style. It was impressive. At 52, Yasuda is fit and solidly built. "I thought about being a personal trainer when I came back to Japan," he said. I let out a laugh, but he assured me that he was serious: He'd been certified as a trainer in the United States. 7 top Singapore cooking schools Posted: 04 Dec 2012 08:08 AM PST When the urge to slip on an apron strikes, foodies in Asia's culinary capital hit these kitchen classes Article Page A recent Gallup survey says Singaporeans are the world's most unemotional bunch. Sure, we might be a bit reserved. But that doesn't extend to matters of the stomach. Whether facing down a steaming plate of chili crabs or engaged in hot debate over where to find the best laksa in town, food is no trivial matter. That's why Singapore's cooking schools are so popular. Nav: Editions: Country: Cities: Region: Vertical: Show map at bottom of page Promoted to homepage blogroll: 0 Promoted to homepage hero: 0 |
6 ways to enjoy the Persian Gulf (that don't involve shopping) Posted: 04 Dec 2012 08:02 AM PST Dune bashing in Qatar. Skiing (!) in Dubai. There's more to the Middle East's Gulf states than shiny buildings Article Page When imagining a trip to the Persian Gulf, many of us picture bartering for silks and exotic treasures at an ancient souq, or perhaps befriending a Bedouin and wandering the desert in a camel caravan. Alas, the modern Middle East often seems mostly filled with anonymous glass skyscrapers, brand name shopping and little else. Don't despair. There's more than shopping and architecture in the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which include Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
