| Survival tips for Singapore’s independent arts community Posted: 05 Aug 2011 02:58 AM PDT  When the Post-Museum first opened in September 2007 in two small shop houses in Little India, the artistic, creative and left-leaning communities in Singapore were delighted. This was a home for them. Comprising exhibition and performance space, artists' studios, offices and Food #03, a social enterprise café, Post-Museum hosted events, programs and edgy initiatives covering issues such as sexuality, civil society, social issues, independent film, art, music and literature and alternative culture; often pushing the envelope and providing a platform for things that were a challenge to engage in openly in mainstream Singapore.      |

From bus protests to tax reform, anti-war rallies to dictator-toppling, the simple act of banding together and speaking out can really change nations. Which makes us pause to consider whether Japan's armies of office workers have been joining wills to demand the evil that is instant-coffee dispensers be banished from their workplaces and replaced with as patently fine a vending machine as the new One Shot miso soup dispenser from Marukome.    |
| Sunday is for gallery-hopping in South Mumbai Posted: 05 Aug 2011 01:26 AM PDT  10 core Mumbai art galleries from the Colaba/Fort area have agreed to open on Sunday and late on Thursday in an effort to re-energize interest in art in the city. On the fourth Sunday and the second Thursday of every month (that's Thursday August 11 and Sunday August 28 this month) galleries will open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, and till 9 p.m. on Thursday. Suburban Mumbaikars know just how painful it is to reach the nether tip of Mumbai during weekday evening rush hours when the city's best galleries hold their opening cocktails for shows. Saturday in Mumbai counts as a weekday and Sunday has traditionally been Shabbat day for the art world.    |
